Gochujang Tofu
As seen on Cheap Lazy Vegan
Using DSI's Extra Firm Tofu, this recipe creates a crispy, pan-seared tofu, tossed in Korean gochujang sauce for a savory, slightly sweet, and gently spicy dish. Finished with a sprinkle of sesame for a rich, comforting bite with just the right kick!
INGREDIENTS
3 tablespoons gochujang (Korean chili paste)
1 block of DSI Extra Firm Tofu
3 tablespoons cornstarch
2–3 tablespoons cooking oil
2 tablespoons maple syrup (or agave nectar or another liquid sweetener)
3 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon soy sauce
2 tablespoons water
½ teaspoon sesame seeds
STEPS
Cut tofu into bite-sized cubes.
2. Heat a non-stick pan over medium-high heat.
3. Place the tofu cubes in a bowl and toss them with cornstarch until each piece is evenly coated.
4. Add oil to the hot pan for frying.
5. Carefully add the coated tofu cubes to the pan, spacing them out so they don’t stick together. Cook until golden and crispy on all sides, turning occasionally and adding more oil if necessary.
6. While the tofu cooks, prepare the sauce. In a small bowl, whisk together the gochujang, agave nectar (or your sweetener of choice), ketchup and water.
7. Mix the sauce until you get a smooth consistency. Add more water if you prefer a thinner sauce.
8. When tofu is crisp and golden brown, remove from heat and pour sauce over the tofu. Toss gently until all pieces are evenly coated.
9. Pair tofu with rice and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
ENJOY!
